Will Smith is quite the prankster even back in the day.
In an upcoming interview on The Graham Norton Show, the 53-year-old actor reportedly recalls a prank he played on then-girlfriend Jada Pinkett Smith in the early stages of their romance.
The actress was due to meet Will’s family for the first time, and the actor couldn’t help but make light of the situation.
“I was raised in a very religious household and my grandmother Gigi is all the way down with Jesus,” Will says on the program. “Because she didn’t know who Jada was, I put on a movie of hers and worked out that by the time Jada arrived my grandmother would be watching the love scene.”
While the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star found it funny, Jada — who he went on to marry in 1997 — was livid.
“She walked in, my grandmother was in the middle of the scene and she looked up and said to Jada, ‘When I was growing up people didn’t have to take their clothes off to make a movie,'” Will shared.
Naturally, Jada had some stern words for him when she “took him aside later that night”, but he assured her they would laugh about it one day.
“I said, ‘I promise you it’s funny, maybe not now, but one day this is going to provide us with years of joy,'” he remembered telling her. “We have been together for 27 years and she literally hasn’t chuckled once!”
