Of all the bonkers things to happen in 2020, we bet you didn’t think that Vin Diesel recording and releasing a song would be one of them.
Just like the rest of us, the Fast and the Furious actor has picked up a random hobby in quarantine: singing.
While some people thought that Diesel’s song was a joke or stunt, he introduced it with nothing but sincerity.
“Kelly, I am so honoured to be able to debut my music on your show,” he said in a pre-recorded message. “I am blessed that on a year that I would normally be on a movie set — but as you know, that’s not possible — I’ve had another creative outlet. Another way to show you or share with you my heart.”
Clarkson then played the song for the audience. They seemed to be enjoying the track, but viewers commented that it felt “awkward”, because the audience were all on video screens rather than being physically present.
The song is actually kind of a bop, but it’s hard for people to get past a) the fact that it’s by Vin Diesel, and b) the awkward on-screen audience dancing.
“No dystopian fiction could have imagined the present reality,” one person tweeted with the video.
“I didn’t know what to expect Vin Diesel’s music to sound like, but somehow it was exactly this. It was ALWAYS this,” another added.
Diesel’s collaborator, Kygo, has previously worked with singers including Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding, Conrad Sewell and Rita Ora.
This is the actor’s first single, but it’s not the first time we’ve heard him sing. He performed a rendition of ‘See You Again’ at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards to pay tribute to co-star Paul Walker.
And of course, we can’t forget about his truly iconic karaoke performance of Rihanna’s ‘Stay’.
