Govt approves scheme for electronics manufacturing

Union communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said the government will dole out incentives worth Rs 40,995 crore to boost manufacturing of electronics products. Incentives will be linked to incremental sales and capital investment of the companies, he added. Govt hopes to generate manufacturing revenue potential of Rs 10 lakh crore by 2025.

Vodafone Global CEO Nick Read has told the government that the company wants to make a new and good beginning in India, according to sources. Read — who met finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad separately on Friday — sought government assistance to keep Vodafone Idea afloat, the sources added.
