Since Bridgers’ rise across global music charts in 2019, the singer has often spoken of her father, who features in some of her songs.
In 2020, the singer spoke candidly to The New Yorker about her relationship with her father: “I feel so much f–king empathy and so much f–king anger toward him.”
She added, “It’ll always be day to day: Are we talking, are we not talking? What’s the vibe?”

Bridgers’ father was a scenic carpenter, working as a set builder for film and television shows. It was her father who Bridgers’ credits for building her distinct style and taste in music.
“He was pretty sensitive about money, and he didn’t love it when I was taking guitar lessons… but as far as music goes, [my dad’s] the one who listened to Tom Waits, he’s the one who listened to Jackson Browne,” Bridgers said in The New Yorker interview.
Fans and friends have inundated the star with messages of love following her post, with 13 Reasons Why star Tommy Dorfman commenting, “biggest hug and love ever.”
Kesha wrote, “I’m so sorry❤️,” while singer Alessia Cara shared a single love heart.
The news comes amidst rumours that Bridgers has separated from her rumoured fiancé Normal People actor Paul Mescal. The pair have been dating since 2020, and were rumoured to be engaged in November 2022.
Mescal was recently spotted in an unlikely scenario, grabbing coffee with Angelina Jolie and her daughter, Shiloh.
