Former Miss Universe Australia Olivia Molly Rogers’ ex Justin McKeone speaks out four months after shock split

The estranged husband of former Miss Universe Australia, Olivia Molly Rogers, has broken his silence four months after their shock split.

Justin McKeone has stayed out of the spotlight since they announced their separation in October after just eight months of marriage. But after the model, 30, made claims about their marriage in a new interview on the Life Uncut podcast this week, McKeone felt compelled to speak out.

“A wise person once said never believe there is one side to a story. Respect the dignity of a broken marriage > speaking publicly,” he wrote in an Instagram story overnight.

“My nearest and dearest know my side and that’s all that matters to me. That’s all you’ll ever (hear) from me. Thank you for all the messages of support – I can honestly say l’ve never been happier.”

In the podcast, Rogers told hosts Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley that she split from McKeone because he made her “miserable”. She claims she wanted to call off their lavish wedding in the lead-up to their big day in February last year, but she thought things would get better after they were married.

“There’s something to say about thinking marriage is going to be a solution. He’s made a commitment to me so I thought things would improve,” Rogers said on the podcast.

“But whatever you think is going to change when you get married, it doesn’t. It won’t suddenly heal everything.

“When it’s a healthy relationship you can work on it as a team. But when the same things keep coming up over and over again you’re flogging a dead horse.”

Before announcing their split, the couple had undergone IVF for nearly one year as Rogers thought a baby would fill a void in their relationship. But as their marriage began to unravel, she said she was “terrified” of getting pregnant.

Now Rogers – who won Miss Universe Australia in 2017 – says she’s prioritising herself in 2023.

“I have been really taking the time to focus on myself since becoming single and I am truly really enjoying it,” Rogers told 9Honey in an interview last week.

“I am able to put myself first and focus only on what I want to do and who I want to spend my time with. I feel like [self love] really does have a deeper meaning for me at the moment.”

“To me, self love means caring for yourself and knowing that you are worthy of happiness no matter what. Self love is about putting yourself first, taking care of your emotional and physical needs and not sacrificing your needs to please anybody else.”

The former couple met in 2018 and were together for almost five years before going their separate ways. Rogers announced their split in an Instagram post back in October.

“After 4.5 years together, Justin and I have come to the difficult decision to separate as a couple,” she wrote at the time. “I do not wish to make any further statements about this in the near future. Please respect our decision and privacy at this time. Thank you for all your private DMs, kindness and support.”
